Hello from Georgia!

Unread post by lauren9685 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 2:15 am

Hello from Georgia! (Augusta area)

My name is Lauren and I'm 32. I had an injury at birth which caused Glaucoma in my right eye. Lost vision in that eye when I was 5, wasn't actually diagnosed with Glaucoma til I was 24 and after all the drops and treatments didn't work anymore I ended up getting an evisceration last year (Feb. 2017) and received my prosthesis in May 2017. Movement is great (looking up is still a little tricky) and I have virtually no pain anymore. Still getting used to the look of having my prosthesis out and coping mentally, but my Husband, Ocularist and Opthamologist have all been fantastic and I have way more good days than bad.

Born and raised a Texan but have lived in Augusta for almost 2 years now.
I'm a wife to an Army Veteran, only sister to 5 brothers, and Aunt to 5 kiddos.

Thankful for the lost eye website as it REALLY helped me during pre-op days and post op.
Happily married of 12 years (Apr. 2006)
Glaucoma from injury at birth (Sept 1985)
Right eye Evisceration (Feb. 2017)
Prosthesis (May 2017)
Texan by Birth, Georgia southern girl by choice.
